New details have emerged about the deaths of three Israeli hostages, mistakenly killed by Israeli soldiers. Alon Shamriz, Yotam Haim and Samar Talalka died on December 15 – the IDF has since released few details about how the three captives were killed by the military sent to free them.

The investigation, released nearly two weeks after the incident, echoed previous reports that the hostages were shirtless and one of them was waving a white flag.

A report on the deaths of three kidnapped Israelis said the hostages escaped their captors when IDF troops opened fire on them, Sky News reported.

According to a new Israeli military report, two of the hostages died during the first salvo, while the third died 15 minutes later when the IDF called for him to come out and was fired upon.

Alon Shamriz, Yotam Haim and Samar Talalka died on December 15 in the Shijaya area of ​​​​the Gaza city, recalls Sky News.

Nearly two weeks later, the Israel Defense Forces released the results of its investigation into the incident and how it said the three captives were killed by soldiers sent to bring the hostages home.

The first line of the report, released Thursday evening, said one of the three men fled the scene after they were initially shot at.

“An IDF soldier fired toward three figures identified as threats and hit two hostages, who were killed. The third figure escaped,” the report said.

At this point, troops on the ground were ordered to cease fire, the IDF said in a press release.

“About 15 minutes later, the battalion commander heard shouts in Hebrew of ‘help’ and ‘they’re shooting at me’ and gave further orders to cease fire, shouting ‘come to us’ in Hebrew.”

The man then left the building when two IDF soldiers, “who did not hear the order due to the noise from a nearby tank,” shot at him and killed him.

The IDF report also states – as has already been reported – that three of the hostages were shirtless – naked to the waist – and one of them was waving a white flag.

Graphs released with the report appear to show what the IDF describes as a “blind spot” in the shooter’s field of view.

“Combat creates many difficult situations,” IDF spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said at a news conference.

“After dealing with explosives all day long, watching your friends die, being shot at with RPGs, facing terrorists in civilian clothes without weapons, you were drawn to all types of explosives on the streets – in this situation the soldier was standing at the window with limited visibility. He made a mistake,” an Israeli army spokesman said.

Earlier this month, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the incident an “unbearable tragedy” and vowed to continue to “make every effort to bring all hostages home safely.”

Alaa al Talalqa, Samer Talalqa’s cousin, said his family had “so much hope” that he would return unharmed.

Along with the report, the IDF released what it said was a chronology of events leading to the deaths of the three hostages: On December 10, a note was found at the exit of a tunnel with the words “Help” in Hebrew. That same day, during a battle between the IDF Golani Brigade and Hamas fighters, commanders heard cries for help in Hebrew inside the building. A few days later, on December 14, signs reading “SOS” and “Help, 3 hostages” were found on a building 200 meters from where the hostages were killed. And finally, the point in this tragic story was the day of December 15, when Alon Shamriz, Yotam Chaim and Samar Talalka, who were literally a few meters from the long-awaited freedom and meeting with their compatriots, were killed by Israeli “friendly” fire.
