In January they decreased and will continue to decrease, because all Chinese manufacturers have revised their plans for supplying cars to the Russian market. That is, last year the Chinese were euphoric that they would sell about 2 million cars, but when they realized the real market this year, everyone adjusted their plans twice. Based on this, we understand that we are returning to some kind of paradigm of sales plans for 2023, and, probably, this is where the price reduction ends. And, most likely, we are now talking not about overstocking the market, but about the purchasing power of the population.”

Both dealers and manufacturers could not help but pay attention to the increase in the number of cars in warehouses. The situation is such that in the near future price wars may begin in the Russian automobile market. This is what Oleg Moseev, the head of the Automarketer project, thinks: “This story began at the end of 2023. It is connected with overstocks, both for officially imported cars and for cars received through parallel imports. Now players are slowly “testing” the market.

Not everyone is doing this, but I am sure that if plans are not reduced, then most likely we will see price wars. And not just targeted reductions, but price competition. We live in interesting times. This is due to the fact that, firstly, supplies are constantly increasing. Secondly, we have a factor that prevents us from absorbing these rising supplies – expensive loans. Credit and leasing accounted for more than 55% of our sales. And you can interest customers who are thinking of buying a car on credit by offering a price reduction.”

Already now, as Kommersant FM’s interlocutors note, some car dealers are ready to offer customers discounts of much more than 100 thousand rubles, in some cases they can reach up to 300 thousand rubles. In general, the decline in car prices will continue for a long time, and this is the result of the fact that the Russian market is completing its reformatting, notes Dmitry Chumakov, general director of the analytical agency Vector Market Research: “The market is undergoing a certain correction after an excessive rise in prices, which was associated with a lack of offers. If we talk about how to get big discounts, then this is a 2023 car.

Such cars now look less interesting, say, for purchase as a new one. When resold later, it will look a year older. They also offer a discount on cars that were imported in 2023 and for some reason did not find their buyers, for example, it may be too rich in equipment, a certain color or a combination of exterior and interior colors. For such items, you can often find a discount of not 100 thousand rubles, but 200-300 thousand rubles. and even more, especially when it comes to premium cars.

Declining car prices is a long-term trend. This is also due to the fact that the market is completing its reformatting. And now it will gradually begin to grow at a higher rate, but with a different brand structure. There was a certain vacuum, there was uncertainty, there were certain conservative characteristics among Russian car buyers. Now there are cars of new brands. That is, the market as a whole is changing its structure and moving to gradually increasing competition, and therefore to a certain price pressure on dealers. Accordingly, prices will be more stable.”

Along with other market players, the Moscow Automobile Plant recently announced a reduction in prices for its products. Thus, until the end of January, four-door Moskvich 6 models in the “comfort” and “Business” trim levels can be purchased for 200 thousand rubles. cheaper.
