Netanyahu announced the consequences for Lebanon of the activation of Hezbollah

The entry of the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah into the war would be a big mistake and would lead to devastating consequences for both the militants and Lebanon, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said during a meeting with soldiers on the northern border.

“If Hezbollah decides to enter the war, it will yearn for a Second Lebanon War,” said Netanyahu, referring to Israel’s 2006 war with Lebanon (quoted by The Times of Israel).

According to the Israeli prime minister, Hezbollah could “make the mistake of its life.” If the group were to take part in the fighting, Israel would “strike the movement with a force it cannot even imagine, with devastating consequences for it and for Lebanon.”

Pinpoint fighting between Hezbollah and Israel has continued since the Palestinian group Hamas attacked the Jewish state on October 7 and launched Operation Iron Swords in the Gaza Strip in response.

In a show of solidarity with the Palestinians, Iran-backed Hezbollah fired at three Israeli posts in the area of ​​the so-called Shebaa farm in the northeast of the country on the morning of October 8. Israel carried out retaliatory airstrikes on positions of Lebanese militants. On October 9, the Lebanese Foreign Ministry said that Hezbollah had promised not to conduct military operations against Israel unless it began to “persecute” Lebanon. In addition, Israeli Defense Forces soldiers prevented a group of terrorists from entering the country from Lebanon, the IDF reported. As a result, several people were killed using drones.

On October 22, the country’s Defense Forces launched an airstrike against a Hezbollah facility after firing anti-tank missiles at northern Israel. Due to the situation on the border, Israel several times announced the evacuation of populated areas in the north of the country.
