Netanyahu agrees on new Israeli cabinet minutes before mandate expires

The head of the Likud party, Benjamin Netanyahu, told Israeli President Yitzhak Herzog late on December 21 that he had managed to form a new government coalition after weeks of negotiations with his right-wing and religious partner parties. He assured that the new government would work for “all Israeli citizens,” according to The Jerusalem Post. Netanyahu has already led the government from 1996 to 1999, and then from 2009 to 2021, setting a record for tenure in Israel.
The message from Netanyahu came about 20 minutes before the deadline set for him by the president to form a government. Netanyahu received the mandate on November 13 and expired on December 11. The Duke later extended the mandate by 10 days.
