Negotiations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and the head of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas “caused fury” in the White House, according to the portal Axios.
Referring to a representative of the US National Security Council, Axios reports that Abbas’s statement that Palestine has lost confidence in the administration of US President Joe Biden caused particular dissatisfaction. In addition, Americans were irritated by the thesis that Washington is unable to mediate between Israel and Palestine.
The reaction to Abbas’s statements at the White House was described by a source as “fury”. The White House believes that Putin is not suitable for the role of mediator in resolving the conflict between Palestine and Israel.
The meeting between Putin and Abbas took place on the sidelines of the Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia in Astana. During the bilateral talks, the politicians discussed, in particular, the Palestinian-Israeli settlement, as well as the issue of Russian wheat supplies to Palestine.
