Nebenzya: U.S. threatens security and peace in Northeast Asia

The United States itself threatens security and peace in Northeast Asia, but in a “traditional manner” shifts responsibility to others, Vasily Nebenzya, Russia’s permanent representative to the organization, said at a meeting of the UN Security Council.
The Security Council held a meeting on the situation on the Korean Peninsula, which was convened by the United States. US Ambassador to the UNPO Linda Thomas-Greenfield accused Russia and China of not fulfilling their obligations to maintain peace in the region, writes “Kommersant”. She condemned the visits of Russian officials to Pyongyang that took place in July.
“The convening of today’s meeting is nothing more than a cynical and hypocritical attempt by the United States to increase pressure on Pyongyang and divert attention from the reckless and escalatory actions of Washington and allies in the region, which are the real source of threats to international peace and security,” said Nebenzya (quote according to RIA Novosti).
He noted that the United States “in the traditional manner, switches arrows and blames others, not recognizing responsibility for the escalation” in the region.
China’s Deputy Ambassador to the UN, Geng Shuang, said North Korea’s missile launches are “closely linked to the military activities of a number of countries” and added that US and allied exercises “will increase the risk of confrontation and conflict.”
