Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, called the adoption by the UN General Assembly of a resolution calling for an immediate truce in the conflict zone between Israel and Palestine a victory of common sense, justice and considerations of humanism. About it reports TASS.
“This is not a victory for some national position, it is a victory for common sense, justice and considerations of humanism,” Nebenzya said.
The UN General Assembly resolution on the exacerbation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict was prepared Jordan and 40 other countries. It condemns violence against civilians on both sides, and also calls on the parties to the conflict to organize an immediate humanitarian truce, which will ultimately lead to a cessation of hostilities.
The Palestinian group Hamas attacked southern Israel on October 7. The Israel Defense Forces responded by launching Operation Iron Swords, and the country declared a state of war. On October 27, Israel announced the expansion of its ground operation in Gaza. Hamas responded that it was repelling a ground invasion in the eastern part of the Al-Bureij camp. Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman al-Safadi said the Israel Defense Forces had launched a ground military operation in the Gaza Strip.
According to the latest data, about 8,000 people have died during the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, including more than 6,500 Palestinians.
