Nebenzya accused the West of treating Africa as a backyard

Western countries treat the African continent as their “backyard”. This was stated in interview RT Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Vasily Nebenzya.
Recall that two years ago, EU Commissioner for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell urged Russia “not to dig in the backyard” of the West. Now Nebenzya argues that the West sees Africa as its “backyard”, and the growing activity of Russian-African relations causes jealousy among the former colonial mother countries.
According to Nebenzi, Borrell’s statements caused “public horror”. Now Russia is actively developing economic and technical ties with the countries of the African continent, which is seen by the West as an encroachment on its historical “sphere of influence”.
