Former President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev said at a meeting of the Astana Club that the basis of modern geopolitical reality is the growth of power confrontation, a multi-crisis in the economic architecture against the backdrop of sanctions, climate change, as well as weakening cooperation to reduce the nuclear threat.

“We are closer to a nuclear disaster than ever before,” quotes Nazarbayev his press service.

He explained that such regression “is particularly concerning” to him, since Kazakhstan has made “a great contribution to the cause of nuclear disarmament.” According to Nazarbayev, it is impossible to achieve tangible progress in this area “without political will at the global level,” and called for the intensification of the anti-nuclear movement.

Nazarbayev noted that despite the resignation, he does not stop “reflecting on the state and future of the world in which we, our children and grandchildren will live.” He concluded that “if we want to avoid global conflict,” there are no alternatives to dialogue in politics.
