NATO Secretary General: the risk of an escalation of the conflict in Ukraine is less risky than the victory of Russia

The escalation of the conflict in Ukraine carries fewer risks for NATO than a Russian victory, which would be “extremely” dangerous for the allies, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said at the Munich Security Conference. About it informs TASS.

“Many are wondering if military assistance to Ukraine carries the risk of escalating the conflict. I can say that there are no risk-free options. But the risk of Putin winning is much higher,” he said.

According to Stoltenberg, a Russian victory “would be extremely” dangerous for NATO, so it is necessary to continue to support Ukraine. The secretary general also believes that the countries of the alliance should prepare for confrontation with Russia: modernize their own armies, strengthen relations between European countries and the United States, and generally strengthen the “resilience” of Western society.

On January 24, during the PACE meeting in Strasbourg, German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock called on the EU countries to do more to support Ukraine, in particular with regard to tanks, and not to look for the guilty within the Commonwealth. She added that EU countries “wage war against Russia, not against each other.”

February 1 Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) Sergei Naryshkin in an interview with RIA Novosti declaredthat the West is expanding the volume and list of deliveries of offensive weapons to Kyiv, and, according to him, the United States and its allies are ready to “wage war with Russia to the last Ukrainian.”
