Russian aviation made an “unsafe and unprofessional” overflight of NATO ships in the Baltic Sea, the pilots did not respond to requests from the countries of the alliance, reported on the NATO website.
It is specified that we are talking about an incident that occurred on November 17. The fighters flew over the ships at 300 feet (91 meters) and 80 yards (73 meters) away.
Two Russian fighter jets made an unsafe and unprofessional approach to Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 (SNMG1) operating in the Baltic Sea.
The North Atlantic Alliance considered such interaction unsafe, since it was carried out “in a known danger zone, which was used for air defense exercises. The overflight of Russian fighters, as noted, increased the “risk of miscalculations, errors and accidents.” NATO promised to respond to “any interference” in the activities of the alliance in the area, which jeopardizes the safety of aircraft, ships or their crews, but said they did not seek confrontation.
Earlier, the Ministry of Defense reported that all flights of aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces are carried out in strict accordance with the International Rules for the Use of Airspace over Neutral Waters.
