NATO and the US rally allies in Asia in the face of the threat of China and North Korea

The US and NATO simultaneously intensified their activity in East Asia. On January 30, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin began his tour of South Korea and the Philippines, and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg arrived in Seoul on January 28. The Pentagon website emphasizes that the security situation in the Indo-Pacific region is becoming “increasingly complex” and in this context, Austin will meet with allies to “continue efforts to strengthen the security system in the region.”
China, from the point of view of the US military establishment, remains the main challenge and promotes a policy aimed at “changing the international order based on rules.” Therefore, the US is looking to strengthen alliances to “ensure that the combined deterrent force is stronger than ever before.”
