The Russian intelligence services have reliable data that the Ukrainian military is deploying Western weapons on the territories of nuclear power plants. This was announced by the director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) Sergey Naryshkin, his words transmits SVR press office.
“There are reliable reports that the Ukrainian armed forces are stockpiling Western-provided weapons and ammunition on the territories of nuclear power plants,” Naryshkin said.
The press service clarified that we are talking about missiles for the Hymars MLRS and foreign air defense systems, as well as large-caliber artillery ammunition. According to the SVR, in the last week of December 2022, several railway wagons of weapons were delivered to the Rivne NPP.
As noted in the Foreign Intelligence Service, Kyiv expects that Russian troops will not strike at weapons depots in the territories of nuclear power plants, realizing the danger of a nuclear threat. If the detonation happens due to a “stray Ukrainian air defense missile,” then the Ukrainian authorities will blame Moscow for the tragedy, the ministry’s press service added.
Earlier, the Russian authorities have repeatedly accused Ukraine of creating a nuclear threat around the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. The shelling of the station by the Armed Forces of Ukraine became more frequent in the summer of 2022. In this regard, in early September, an IAEA mission headed by the director of the agency, Rafael Grossi, arrived at the ZNPP. 6 September IAEA published report on the results of his visit. The organization called for an end to the attacks on the station and the establishment of a safe zone around it. At the same time, experts did not specify who was shelling the object.
Russia has repeatedly stressed that it does not place weapons at the ZNPP. However, shelling of the station resumed in November 2022. Then the Russian Defense Ministry accused Kyiv in creating the threat of a man-made disaster.
