In the event that Russian pensioners have any debts, part of their pension payments can be withheld to cover the debt, as stated by Valery Ryazansky, Chairman of the Presidium of the Union of Pensioners of Russia.
In conversation with “Evening Moscow” Ryazansky explained that the pension is reduced by the debt that the pensioner is obliged to pay. However, if this amount is higher than 50% of the pension, then, according to the expert, it is withheld in installments. At the same time, the specialist noted that in his practice there were situations when 75% of the pension was deducted from pensioners with debts, but this is illegal. Ryazansky clarified that Russia has a law that clearly regulates these moments.
According to the expert, a pensioner should not wait for his debt to be transferred to the work of the Federal Bailiff Service (FSPP), since after deducting 50% of the debt from pension payments, he risks being left without a livelihood.
Ryazansky advised debtors in such situations to apply directly to a bank or credit institution where a citizen has a debt in order to try to negotiate a more acceptable payment.
