Nabiullina calls to declassify data on the Russian economy

According to the chairman of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, Elvira Nabiullina, it is necessary to provide public access to a large array of data on the state of the Russian economy, which was hidden after the start of the special operation in Ukraine. Such a step, Nabiullina believes, will lead to the fact that investors will again begin to invest in the Russian economy. The publication notes that the Russian authorities, after the outbreak of hostilities, classified information about national reserves in foreign currency and export figures. According to the FT, spending on closed items of the Russian budget increased by 40%. Information about the foreign trade of the Russian Federation was also hidden.
The Kremlin believes that hiding such information will help protect the country from Western sanctions.
“We should return to proper disclosure of information – with some exceptions – so that investors can invest in securities,” Nabiullina explained.
