The Permanent Mission of Russia to the UN expects that the leadership of the organization will take the necessary steps towards the United States after their decision not to issue visas to Russian journalists. The relevant comment was published on Sunday in the Permanent Mission’s Telegram channel.

At the end of April, employees of the Russian media were supposed to accompany Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to New York to participate in key events under the Russian chairmanship of the UN Security Council, but they never received American visas. The permanent mission said that Washington violated its obligations that follow from the agreement on the UN central bodies. At the same time, the formalities and deadlines were observed by the journalists, the statement says.

“We consider this step as another US disregard for international law. The denial of admission to UN events for Russian journalists once again shows the true attitude of the American authorities towards freedom of speech and access to information,” the permanent mission said.

Moscow also hopes that the UN leadership and relevant international structures “show due attention to this outrageous situation” and take the necessary steps against the United States.

Earlier today, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Russian journalists who arrived at the airport still had not received US visas. Lavrov in this regard named US behavior is ugly and accused Washington of cowardice. The minister stressed that Moscow “will not forget, will not forgive” the failure to issue US visas to Russian media workers.
