Moscow called on the UN to condemn London’s plans to supply Kyiv with uranium shells

Russia called on the UN to openly condemn Britain’s intention to supply depleted uranium munitions to Ukraine. About it reported Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.

“We are extremely disappointed that representatives of the UN Secretariat are also hushing up the obvious negative consequences of the use of depleted uranium munitions. We call on the UN secretariat to openly condemn the plans of the UK, which must be held accountable for its reckless actions, ”the press service of the Foreign Ministry quotes the words of the representative.

According to Zakharova, “one gets the impression that the UN Secretariat is ready in advance to turn a blind eye to any actions of the collective West” in support of Ukraine.

“Despite the fact that they can have serious consequences, including in terms of radiological hazards,” she said.

March 20 British Deputy Secretary of Defense Annabelle Goldie reported that London will supply Kyiv with shells with depleted uranium for Challenger 2 tanks. She explained the supply of such ammunition by the fact that they are highly effective in defeating modern tanks and armored vehicles.

Following reports of planned shipments of such projectiles, Deputy Representative of the UN Secretary General Farhan Haq said that the UN has expressed “concern for years about any use of depleted uranium, taking into account the consequences of such use” and “this applies to anyone who supplies such weapons.”

On April 25, British Deputy Defense Minister James Hippie announced that the UK had already sent thousands of rounds for the Challenger 2 tanks, including those with depleted uranium, to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. However, London does not know where Kyiv will use these shells, since they are now under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Hippie stressed.

After that, the Russian embassy in the UK acted with a statement in which he appealed to the authorities of the kingdom with a call “not to flatter themselves with illusory hopes that by” switching arrows “to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which now have toxic ammunition at their disposal, they will be able to get out of the water dry.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin warnedthat Russia will be forced to respond to the supply of shells with depleted uranium to Ukraine. According to him, this decision demonstrates the willingness of the West to fight Russia to the last Ukrainian, not in words but in deeds. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called the supply of such shells a step towards a significant escalation of the situation.
