Russia and Belarus agreed on 17 integration import-substituting projects totaling over 80 billion rubles. This was announced by the Deputy Minister of Industry of the Republic Dmitry Kharitonchik on the sidelines of the X Forum of the Regions of the two countries, transmits BelTA.
Russia allocated a loan of 105 billion rubles to Belarus. for import-substituting projects last fall. As Kharitonchik said today, the parties “carried out significant work in this direction”, having formed lists of projects by type of product.
Funding was opened for the Gomselmash project, and funds will be allocated for four more projects in July, he added.
On September 14, 2020, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced his decision to provide Minsk with a $1.5 billion loan. Belarus received the money in two stages. The Ministry of Finance of the country announced the receipt of the first tranche of $1 billion through the EFSD on December 30, 2020. Belarus received another $500 million on June 2, 2021. In October 2022, Russia and Belarus agreed allocation to Minsk of another loan in the amount of $1.5 billion for import substitution projects.
Last December, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said that as a result of joint efforts, Russia and Belarus were able to overcome the possible negative consequences of Western sanctions. At the same time, according to Lukashenka, not everything has worked out yet. “On a number of sensitive topics, governments have exhausted negotiating opportunities,” he said.
Today, June 28, Lukashenko said that the trade turnover between Russia and Belarus exceeded $50 billion in 2022. At the beginning of the month, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said that in the first four months of this year, the figure increased by 11% year-on-year, having exceeded 1 trillion rub. ($11.56 billion at the current exchange rate).
