The press secretary of Vladimir Putin’s election headquarters, Alexandra Suvorova, told reporters that more than 500 thousand signatures had been collected in support of the self-nomination of the current president. According to her, lawyers will soon begin checking all the necessary documents.
“Today the first part of the collected signatures from the Moscow region was brought to the central headquarters; from January 5, other regions will begin bringing signatures here,” said Alexandra Suvorova (quoted by TASS).
According to current legislation, a self-nominated candidate in presidential elections must collect at least 300 thousand voter signatures in his support and submit them to the Central Election Commission by January 31. After this, the CEC must verify the signatures, review the registration documents and, within ten days, make a decision on whether to register the candidate for the elections or to refuse it.
