More than 30,000 people have applied for Russian passports in the Zaporozhye region, Yevgeny Balitsky, head of the region’s pro-Russian military-civilian administration (VGA), said.
“Today, more than 30,000 applications with a full package of documents are being processed by specialists at passportization points,” wrote he is in his Telegram channel.
In total, the authorities opened 12 points for receiving documents in Melitopol, Berdyansk, Akimovka and other settlements, Balitsky added.
Russian troops took control of the Azov part of the Zaporozhye region and the Kherson region shortly after the start of a special military operation in Ukraine. In May, the pro-Russian authorities in these territories announced plans to hold a referendum on joining Russia.
In June, the pro-Russian authorities of Zaporozhye declared on plans to become part of Russia before the end of the year. After that, the ceremony of issuing the first Russian passports took place in Melitopol.
