More than 120 WTO members have concluded an agreement to simplify investments – Kommersant

123 members of the World Trade Organization (WTO), including Russia, signed Agreement to Facilitate Investment for Development. The document highlights the need to increase transparency and remove bureaucratic obstacles in developing countries. The draft agreement has been developed since 2018.
“In six years, you have gone from groundwork to an agreement that promises to help signatories attract the foreign investment they need to boost economic growth, increase productivity, create jobs and integrate into global value chains,” said the WTO director-general. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala at the organization’s Ministerial Conference in Abu Dhabi.
Russia became the 156th member of the World Trade Organization in 2012. Negotiations on Russia’s entry into the organization lasted 18 years, from 1993 to 2011. As of January 2024, 164 countries are members of the WTO.
