Monument to Soviet writer Nikolai Ostrovsky dismantled in Kharkov. Now only one pedestal is left of it, which was previously painted with red paint by vandals, Kharkiv media report.

Soviet writer Nikolai Ostrovsky became famous thanks to the novel “How the Steel Was Tempered”.

It was this monument (there were three of them in the city) that stood on Chernyshevskaya Street near the children’s library, which is also named after the writer.

The first monument stood near the school on Heroiv Kharkiv Avenue: it was demolished in February 2022.

Now in Kharkov there is only one monument to the writer – near the metro station “Army”. Its pedestal also has an inscription in red paint, made by vandals last year.
