The Moldovan government has denounced agreements within the CIS on the basic principles of cooperation in the field of peaceful use of atomic energy in 1992, as well as radiation safety and training of specialists, the press service of the Cabinet reported.

“The agreements have not been implemented in Moldova and are of a formal nature. Their denunciation will not entail serious consequences,” leads TASS words of the Minister of the Environment Jordanka-Rodika Iordanova.

In August, Moldova denounced agreement on the establishment of a joint consultative commission on disarmament issues in the CIS. The government of the republic considered the agreement non-functional, because, according to the Minister of Defense Anatoly Nosaty, the country did not implement the provisions of the agreement. In 1994, Chisinau decided to exclude interaction in the military-political field within the framework of the CIS, pointing out the contradictions in the document to the principles of sovereignty and independence of Moldova.

In February, Chisinau recalled its permanent representative from the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly. At the same time, the country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Nicu Popescu, said that Chisinau had begun the process of withdrawing from the agreements within the Commonwealth, which was completed in May. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova, the republic is a party to approximately 330 documents.
