Admiral Alexander Moiseev was appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, reported Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu. According to him, the decree on the appointment was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin. In this position, Mr. Moiseev replaced Admiral Nikolai Evmenov, who had headed the Navy since 2019.

At a meeting with the leadership of the Russian Armed Forces, Sergei Shoigu also announced that Vice Admiral Konstantin Kabantsov had been appointed commander of the Northern Fleet. In his new position he mentioned in a message from the Ministry of Defense dated March 19. Vice Admiral Sergei Pinchuk has been appointed commander of the Black Sea Fleet.

“You understand the enormous responsibility that falls on your shoulders. And I hope that you will cope with the tasks that the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and, of course, the country have set for you,” said Mr. Shoigu, as quoted by the press service of the Ministry of Defense.

Alexander Moiseev has commanded the Black Sea Fleet since the end of June 2018. In May 2019, he was appointed commander of the Northern Fleet. On March 19, at the ceremony in Kronstadt, he was presented as acting commander-in-chief of the Navy. The resignation of Nikolai Evmenov was reported in the media in early March.
