Ministry of Defense: an officer of the Russian Armed Forces hid in a village captured by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in order to free it

The Russian Ministry of Defense spoke about officer Nikolai Nikonov, who first hid in the village of Popasnoye, which was occupied by the Ukrainian army, and then helped reinforcements establish control over the village.

Due to the use of electronic warfare equipment by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the use of Russian drones was difficult. In order to complete the task, Nikonov, who is the commander of a battery of 2S3 Akatsiya self-propelled howitzers, came close to the enemy, took refuge in the attic, and personally adjusted the artillery fire.

The officer said that he used an ordinary rural house as a shelter. “Everything was perfectly visible from where: the positions of the Wehrmacht, the nearby forest edges, and the ravine,” the artilleryman said.

At the same time, the Ukrainian nationalists subsequently noticed Nikonov and opened fire on him, as a result of which he was seriously wounded. But thanks to his work, units of the Russian Armed Forces entered the territory of Popasnoy and strengthened their positions.
