The turnover of mutual trade between Russia and Algeria in January-April increased by 65% compared to last year and reached 5 billion rubles. About it informed Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin at a meeting with Algerian President Abdelmajid Tebbun.
Mishustin noted that trade and economic cooperation between the countries is developing despite illegal sanctions against Russia. “But I am sure that, despite the positive dynamics, these indicators still do not correspond to the great potential of the economies of our countries,” he added, commenting on the growth in trade.
The Russian Prime Minister noted that the countries are cooperating “on the principles of mutual respect and taking into account each other’s interests,” and large enterprises have been built in Algeria with the participation of Russian specialists. Mishustin suggested cooperation in the digital sphere, telecommunications and transport infrastructure, specifying that the countries are already actively working in energy, industry and agriculture. Russia welcomes Algeria’s interest in expanding relations with the Eurasian Economic Union.
Tebbun pointed to the need to strengthen interaction, acknowledging that his first visit to Russia is taking place “under special political conditions.” “Everyone knows that Algeria is not such a great power in the field of economy compared to the Russian Federation, but we have always strived to become an economically strong state, at least on the African continent. And we have already begun to return this economic strength,” Tebbun said.
tebbun arrived to Russia on the evening of June 13th. Talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Algerian leader are scheduled for June 15. In addition, Tebbun will take part in the plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), which runs from 14 to 17 June.
