The total transportation of goods along the Arctic routes in 2022 amounted to 34 million tons, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said during a report on the work of the government over the past year for the State Duma. The indicator exceeded the target by 2 million tons.
“The Northern Sea Route is also in the area of special attention of the government. We increased its efficiency and safety of navigation by creating a new control system. This made it possible to increase the volume of cargo transportation along the Arctic routes,” the prime minister emphasized.
The head of government added that the formation of transport and logistics corridors is an important part of the work to create an open economy.
The potential of the key route for the export of Russian cargo to Asian countries – the Northern Sea Route – is constantly growing. According to the Rosatom State Corporation, which is the curator of the project, by 2030 the cargo flow through it can increase to 224 million tons, and with high investor interest, by 2035 it can reach 271 million tons.
