Mishustin announced the need to consolidate society due to the situation with PMC “Wagner”

Members of the government were at their workplaces during the attempted military mutiny over the weekend, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said.

“These days the country has faced another challenge. An attempt was made to destabilize the internal situation in Russia. Members of the government were at their jobs, under the leadership of the president they acted clearly, harmoniously, and maintained a stable situation at all levels, ”said the prime minister (quote by Interfax).

Mishustin called ensuring the sovereignty and independence of our country, as well as the security and well-being of citizens, the main thing in these conditions. He noted that for this “the consolidation of the whole society is especially important” and emphasized that it is necessary to act “together as one team and maintain the unity of all forces, rallying around the president.”

June 24 at the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers reported Vedomosti that the prime minister was at his workplace, where he held meetings with members of the government. At the same time, according to the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov, the head of state Vladimir Putin himself was at the workplace in the Kremlin.

The day before, on June 23, the founder of Wagner PMC Yevgeny Prigozhin announced a missile attack on one of the rear camps of a military company and blamed the army for this. The Ministry of Defense called these reports false and “information provocation.” The next morning, June 24, Wagner took control of the military facilities of Rostov-on-Don, after which the PMC began to advance towards Moscow.

In the evening of the same day, Prigozhin announced the stoppage of traffic to Moscow. The Kremlin reported that President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko participated in negotiations to resolve the situation with the founder of the PMC. Peskov also declaredthat, as a result, an agreement was reached that the criminal case initiated against Prigozhin would be terminated, and he himself would move to Belarus.
