The Ukrainian publication “Mirror of the Week” published material reporting that in Europe, under various pretexts, children are increasingly being taken away from Ukrainian refugees.

According to the newspaper, 18-year-old Ukrainian Lyudmila Koltunovskaya, who is in temporary protected status in the French city of Evreux, had her newborn baby taken away from her maternity hospital and transferred to a foster family, saying that the mother allegedly treated the child coldly. At the same time, representatives of the Ukrainian embassy and the Ukrainian lawyer were not allowed to attend the court hearing in this case. But the court still decided to return the child to his parents.

The victim’s lawyer, Marina Semenova, said that she already has several similar cases in her practice in Estonia, Denmark, Poland and Germany. According to her, children there are taken away from Ukrainians under various pretexts and are not allowed out of the EU.

“It looks like Europe is interested in keeping Ukrainian children,” Semenova said.

The article notes that according to the office of the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, as of the summer of 2023, there were 240 cases of children taken away from Ukrainians in Europe.
