Mir payment system can start working in Thailand within three months

Cards of the Russian payment system “Mir” will be accepted in Thailand in two to three months, reported RIA Novosti with reference to the executive director of the tourism department of the kingdom Titiporn Manenate.

“Conversations have been going on at the level of the Central Bank of the two countries for three months. The question is new for Thailand. Because this card has never been mentioned in banking processes. Most realistically, it will be the Siam Commercial Bank. Perhaps others. But all this is not earlier than in two or three months at least,” she said.

According to Manenate, negotiations between the parties are already underway.

The website of the payment system states that Mir cards are now accepted in Belarus, Turkey, Vietnam, Armenia, South Korea, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

At the end of August, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a press conference following talks with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir Abdollahian declaredthat the Mir system will soon be integrated with the Iranian Shetab. He noted that negotiations are underway at the level of central banks, and specified that in July they managed to agree “on a kind of road map.” Speaking about the timing of the implementation of this initiative, Lavrov is sure that “it will take place soon enough.” Also, the Russian Foreign Ministry earlier informed on negotiations on the use of the Mir card in China, Azerbaijan and Egypt. Willingness to discuss the use of “Mir” in their country also expressed Nicaraguan Finance Minister Ivan Acosta.
