Mintsifra deals with Microsoft because of unwillingness to renew subscriptions

The Ministry of Digital Development, Telecommunications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation (Mintsifry) is currently investigating whether statements about Microsoft’s unwillingness to renew subscriptions to corporate customers in Russia are true, said Maksut Shadayev, head of the department. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

“We find out how this is a confirmed fact,” the minister said, noting that information about this appeared only yesterday.

At the same time, according to him, such a situation was quite expected. “We did not expect that this could continue for a long time,” said the head of the Ministry of Digital Development, noting that Microsoft products are not subject to parallel imports.

Shadayev also announced that there are alternatives to Microsoft products in the country, recalling that the American company had a year and a half to prepare for such a step. According to him, more and more often Russian companies are switching to domestic operating systems based on Linux.

On Thursday, the RIA Novosti agency, citing Microsoft support, reported that the corporation sent out notifications to business customers in Russia that it would stop renewing the subscription.
