Ministry of agriculture wants to extend the ban on rice exports until the end of the year

The Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation proposed to extend the ban on the export of rice and rice cereals, introduced in the summer of 2022, until the end of this year. project Government Decree is published on the portal of draft regulations.

“To establish from the date of entry into force of this resolution until December 31, 2023, inclusive, a temporary ban on the export of rice … and rice groats … from the Russian Federation,” the document says.

This ban is proposed, as before, not to apply to products exported to the EAEU countries, Abkhazia and South Ossetia, as well as to other countries, if this is done within the framework of international intergovernmental agreements or for humanitarian assistance. The restrictions will also not affect the export of products by individuals for personal use, transit transportation and supplies to Russian military formations on the territory of foreign states.

The Ministry of Agriculture banned the export of rice, rice cereals and feed amino acids in July last year. The press service clarified that this decision is aimed at ensuring the country’s food security, maintaining stable domestic prices for these products, as well as supporting the livestock and processing industries.

Initially, the ban was introduced until the end of 2022, in December extended until 30 June.

Earlier, Minister of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev said that the forecast for grain harvest in Russia in 2023 could be adjusted upwards. In April, he said that the grain harvest in the country, taking into account new regions, is projected at the level of 123 million tons at the end of the year, of which 78 million tons will fall on wheat. According to the minister, such a volume will ensure national food security.
