“Military Thought”: Russia will increase the northern grouping with the expansion of NATO

The entry of Sweden and Finland into NATO will lead to a revision and redistribution of the number of armed forces in different directions. This is stated in the publication in the Russian magazine “Military Thought” of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
“On our part, this will require building up in the northern direction the composition of ground and coastal forces, rocket wax and artillery, air defense and aviation forces, including unmanned aerial vehicles, as well as planning strikes with long-range precision weapons against targets in Sweden and Finland,” noted in the article.
According to the author of the publication, the accession of the two northern countries to NATO is the most pressing challenge for the Russian Federation at the present time. The fact is that after the accession of Finland and Sweden to the Atlantic bloc, the length of the common border with the member countries of the alliance will increase by more than a thousand kilometers. At the same time, not only permanent contingents of the armed forces, but also warehouses of weapons and equipment can be deployed on the territory of the new NATO members.
The article also focuses on the fact that the possible deployment of operational-tactical missile systems in Finland carries a risk for defense industry facilities in the Arkhangelsk region.
The protocol on the accession of Sweden and Finland to NATO was signed on 5 July. Accession documents have been ratified by all countries of the bloc, except for Hungary and Turkey. The expansion of the bloc requires the consent of all member states of the alliance.
