Military registration specialty: what do the numbers and letters on the ticket mean

The specialty of military accounting is a combination of six-digit numbers and one letter. It encodes information about the type of activity of an officer or private. Such a code helps to record and classify military specialists in each field and quickly distribute them to units in accordance with current needs in the event of mobilization.

VUS is assigned during military service and upon receipt of a diploma from military educational institutions. Also, such a specialty can be obtained in the case of attending classes at the military department of a civilian university. Sometimes VUS is assigned to soldiers at recruiting stations.

What are the groups of military specialties

Military registration specialties are divided into several groups, there are command, engineering, driver and other groups. So, for example, in accordance with the Charter of the internal service of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the commander directs the combat training of soldiers and organizes their legal training. It also provides for the preparation for battle and the mobilization of the troops or units entrusted to it. Examples of transcripts of command military registration specialties:

70201 – commander of a traveling platoon;

70203 – commander of a mechanized platoon;

70204 – commander of the communications unit.

There are also operator and engineering specialties. These people work with military equipment and various mechanisms that ensure the functioning of the army in various sectors. The operator can be a programmer, an airport dispatcher, a technician, etc. Their military cards may contain the following designations:

20300 – engineer for adjusting the technical support of tanks and other equipment; 30202 – software management of command and control systems;

97001 – reconnaissance optical department.

Such a specialty as “communicationsman” also has different codes in accordance with the qualifications and divisions. For example:

21000 – communications unit;

121202 – department with medium-power radio stations;

121400 – department with low-channel communication;

121702 – by long-distance communication.

Those who have the specialty of a driver drive not only military vehicles. These people are engaged in driving all possible equipment: armored vehicles, warships and submarines, and also manage trains. The designations used are:

124259 – APC driver;

157259 – driver-mechanic of an anti-aircraft installation;

167259 642 – driver – radio operator.

A separate article – special purpose units. The servicemen of such units perform complex and especially important tasks that cannot be solved without unique skills and thorough training. There are special forces in all branches of the military, but in each it performs its own tasks, inherent only to this type of military activity. Specialties can be, for example, such:

107654 – reconnaissance diver of the reconnaissance unit for special purposes; 107746 – senior instructor for the preparation of special forces units.

Numbers, letters, codes

According to the instructions on the organization of work to ensure the functioning of the military registration system, which was approved by order of the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, the military specialty code includes the specialty number, military position code and specific characteristics of military service. Thus, the first three digits are responsible for the specialty, for example:

107 – units and subdivisions of special purpose;

124 – armored personnel carrier;

166 – engineering troops;

838 – operation of automotive equipment;

100 – rifle troops.

Interestingly, there are also such codes:

998 – not having military training, fit for military service;

999 – not having military training, limited fit for military service.

The next three digits indicate the position of the military. For example,

097 – deputy platoon commander;

210 – crane driver;

001 – accumulator. And three consecutive zeros (000) indicate that this serviceman is without any position.

The letters are at the very end and indicate the special signs of the specialization of a particular military man. For example,

A – ground forces, coastal units of the Navy;

B – specialists in missile weapons;

D – Airborne Forces;

F – special forces;

M – marines;

Sh – Federal Agency for Government Communications and Information.

But the letter Z indicates that this specialist has a higher education.

Transcripts of military registration specialties are approved by three decrees of the Government of the Russian Federation. Their texts are secret, the general public knows the transcripts of only a few VUS:

021000 – commander of a motorized rifle platoon;

183639 – radio miner;

917271 – musician of military bands; one

00915A – shooter with the rank of private or sailor.

But such an original code 999000A means that the person is limited fit and he does not have any military specialty.

Where is the VUS indicated and who will be mobilized first

The military registration specialty is indicated on the 11th page of the military card or in the certificate issued in exchange for such a card. It is almost impossible to decipher the code on your own, because even if some information is in the public domain, it is often incomplete – only regular officers know exactly the meaning of many combinations. At the same time, each person liable for military service can freely find out the transcript of his own VUS in his military registration and enlistment office.

According to information voiced by representatives of the main organizational and mobilization department of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, partial mobilization will call for military service a category of citizens necessary to perform specific combat missions. These are, first of all, snipers, tankmen, gunners, drivers and driver-mechanics.

Priority is given to those who have military registration specialties. Another of the main factors is the availability of combat experience among citizens called up from the reserve.

It is not possible to get acquainted with the full list of military educational institutions, since in accordance with the Law of the Russian Federation “On State Secrets”, the decree of the Government of the Russian Federation that approved the list of military registration specialties cannot be openly published. The fact is that it contains information about the staffing and organizational structure of the Russian troops, as well as about their purpose. It is quite clear that this kind of information cannot be in the public domain.
