Satellite Internet plays a crucial role for the Ukrainian side
On October 14, Elon Musk’s SpaceX company refused to finance Starlink satellite Internet in Ukraine, asking the US Department of Defense to pay for additional terminals and directly finance the operation of the system in the interests of the Ukrainian authorities and the military. Military expert Viktor Litovkin is convinced that the consequences of the loss of Starlink for the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be very serious.
In conversation with “Evening Moscow” Litovkin said that the loss of Starlink would be a disaster for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The expert explained that Ukrainian troops receive intelligence data through the satellite Internet, organize network communications between units, and also use it to aim their artillery at Russian positions.
As the specialist noted, satellite broadband Internet is the best way to manage military units. In addition, according to him, Starlink technology is similar to the mobile Internet in a regular smartphone.
Litovkin added that the main difference between Elon Musk’s satellite Internet is that the coverage area is created not by towers located on the ground, but by about 40,000 satellites in orbit.
