Software maker Microsoft has unveiled a new Aptos font, which will be used by default in the company’s products. Aptos was previously known as Bierstadt. Users voted for the new font.
Microsoft’s chief program manager, Cy Daniels, explained that the company has made the decision to phase out Calibri due to higher resolution screens. “Today we are entering the final phase of this massive change as Aptos becomes the new default font in Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel by hundreds of millions of users,” Daniels wrote in his blog.
Aptos was formerly known as Bierstadt. It was created by one of the world’s leading designers, Steve Matteson. He renamed the font Aptos after his favorite city in Santa Cruz County, California.
The Calibri font has been the default font in all Microsoft office products for the past 15 years. Prior to this, the default fonts were Times New Roman and Arial.
