The structure of Rostelecom estimated the damage to companies from cyber attacks at an average of 20 million rubles

The damage to Russian companies from cyberattacks has increased by a third since the beginning of the year and amounted to an average of 20 million rubles. About it informed “Kommersant” with reference to the data of “RTK-Solar” (included in “Rostelecom”and deals with cybersecurity), based on a survey of 300 representatives of large businesses and the public sector.

Such dynamics is explained by the “multi-vector nature of attacks” and their “destructive impact on business processes”. According to RTK-Solar, the most serious incidents in companies are most often referred to as theft of funds, control of network equipment, compromise or infection of networks, attacks through a contractor, as well as violation of the site and applications. In particular, when attacking large online retailers, the amount of lost profit against the backdrop of an idle site can reach billions of rubles.

The Association of Internet Trade Companies (AKIT) agreed with the assessment. They noted that cyber attacks have not stopped since the beginning of the special operation. According to the chief expert of Kaspersky Lab Sergey Golovanov, now cyber attacks have become much more difficult, resulting in an increase in the time and cost of responding to incidents.

Previously, Vedomosti, citing a study by StormWall wrotethat almost a third of the largest Russian companies in terms of revenue do not provide an adequate level of site protection from DDoS attacks. It was noted that all 100 rating companies provide site protection only at the low network level of the hosting provider. But if attackers attack the resource of a particular company, then 30% of companies will not be able to protect it – according to analysts, more than 90% of DDoS attacks follow this scenario.

Increase in the number of cyber attacks noted and at the end of 2022. Shamil Chich, data analyst at the IZ:SOC cybersecurity monitoring center at Informzashchita, told Vedomosti that hacker attacks on the public sector increased by 2-3 times last year.
