The Russian media group MIA Rossiya Segodnya, headed by media managers Margarita Simonyan and Dmitry Kiselev, has applied for registration of the Ekho Moskvy brand, according to the data of the Federal Service for Intellectual Property.

Applications were submitted in early August. As follows from the data, first application for registration of the name “Echo of Moscow”, second for logo registration. They match the brand of the Ekho Moskvy radio station, which ceased operations in March 2022 after being blocked.

Among the activities listed in the application are content production and various services, including scuba diving equipment rental and oil well monitoring.

Former editor-in-chief of Ekho Moskvy Alexei Venediktov (recognized as a foreign agent) told the publication sotathat, by law, registration cannot be carried out. According to him, the Ekho Moskvy brand “belongs to ZAO Ekho Moskvy, which exists and where minority shareholders control 33.5%.” The publication noted that the rights to the name and logo of Ekho Moskvy expired on July 14.

“Echo of Moscow” turned off off air March 1, 2022. The Prosecutor General’s Office demanded that the radio station’s website be blocked because it disseminated “deliberately false information” about military operations in Ukraine. Now the radio station Sputnik is broadcasting on the frequency of Ekho Moskvy, whose chief editor is Margarita Simonyan. October in Russia blocked the website “Echo”, which was created by journalists of a closed radio station.
