The position of UN Secretary General António Guterres on the crisis around the Zaporozhye NPP continues to raise questions, stated Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.
“The position of the UN Secretary General continues to raise questions. No signals to the Ukrainian leadership from his side have sounded. He is either unable or unwilling to accept reality. How else can one explain the lack of will shown by him, bordering on connivance with Ukrainian attacks on the ZNPP?” Zakharova said.
According to a representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, it is the UN leadership that should be blamed for the disruption of the IAEA mission planned for June. Zakharova noted that the interest of Western delegations in the idea of demilitarizing the Zaporizhzhya NPP and the territories adjacent to it indicates a lack of desire to analyze the situation and the desire to “blame all the troubles and threats on Russia.” The Foreign Ministry also believes that there is no justification for the attempts of Western countries to ignore the shelling of the ZNPP and Energodar.
“It seems that no matter how far the regime of V. Zelensky has gone, the West is ready to write off all his sins in advance, even if among the victims in the end there will be residents of Europe,” she added.
On August 11, at the request of Russia, a meeting of the UN Security Council was held, at which the subject of shelling of the ZNPP was discussed. Guterres in particular declared about the need to agree on a secure perimeter around the ZNPP, since such a facility should not be used as part of any military operation. By words Deputy Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Dmitry Polyansky, at the meeting no one supported the Ukrainian version of what is happening around the station.
After the start of the special operation, Ukraine repeatedly attacked the territory of the station. On August 5, the CAA of the region announced another attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the ZNPP. As a result, two power lines and water pipes were damaged. The Russian Defense Ministry called Ukraine’s actions “nuclear terrorism”.
Attacks continued on 7 and 11 August. Yesterday, the Ukrainian military attacked the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant using MLRS and heavy artillery.
