Mexico increased imports from Russia by 21%

The volume of imports from Russia to Mexico in the first half of 2022 amounted to $1.193 billion, transmits TASS with reference to the Bank of Mexico. Compared to the same period last year, the figure increased by almost 21%.
The largest volume of imports this year was recorded in June, when the Russian Federation supplied Mexico with goods worth $275.4 million. In 2021, the trade turnover between the two countries exceeded $4.5 billion. Moscow exports products of the metallurgical and chemical industries, aluminum and fertilizers.
After the start of a special military operation in Ukraine, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador announced that the country would not impose sanctions against Russia. According to him, Mexico would like to maintain the possibility of dialogue with all participants in the conflict in Ukraine.
The share of Russia’s trade turnover with countries that did not support sanctions against it for the military operation in Ukraine in 2021 amounted to 45.8% of the total volume of foreign trade, or $359.8 billion, according to a study by the analytical service of the international audit and consulting network Fineexpertiza, based on data from the Federal Customs Service (FCS).
The ten main trading partners among such countries, in addition to China, Belarus, Turkey and Kazakhstan, include India (1.7%), Brazil (1%), Vietnam (0.9%), Uzbekistan (0.9%), Mexico (0.6%) and Egypt (0.6%).
