MEP Beck: US staged sabotage at Nord Stream to break ties between Russia and Germany

In an interview with Izvestia, MEP Gunnar Beck expressed his assumption about the purpose for which the United States staged sabotage on the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines.

Beck noted that Western countries are not interested in an open investigation of accidents on gas pipelines. The most convenient version for them is that the pipes were destroyed by Moscow itself. According to the MEP, Russia is demonized in the West and made to fear, but in Germany they doubt it.

Beck believes that the sabotage was staged by the United States to break the economic ties between Russia and Germany. In his opinion, Washington did not like the “close economic relations between Germany and Russia”, so the United States is “doing something or they could try to do something that could break these relations.”

The MEP noted that Washington was guided by strategic reasons to stop Moscow’s cooperation with Berlin and with most European countries.

American journalist Seymour Hersh, known for his investigations, published an article on February 8 in which he accused the United States of being involved in sabotage at Nord Stream. He stated that the operation was carried out by the US Navy, using submarines to plant bombs. Hersh credits National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan to US President Joe Biden as the initiator of developing a plan to destroy the gas pipeline.
