Meeting of Defense Ministers of Turkey, Syria, Russia and Iran to be held in Moscow

The defense ministers of Turkey, Syria, Russia and Iran will meet in Moscow tomorrow, April 25. This was announced by Turkish Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar.

“On April 25, a meeting will be held in Moscow to resolve problems and bring about long-term peace and stability in the region,” said the Turkish head of the defense department (quote according to Anadolu).

On April 9, it became known about the postponement of the meeting of the foreign ministers of Iran, Turkey, Russia and Syria. Then about it told Russian Ambassador to Damascus Alexander Efimov. It was reported that the meeting was rescheduled for early May.

In mid-March, the Turkish NTV channel informedthat the meeting of the Foreign Ministers scheduled for March 16 was also postponed “for technical reasons.”

On December 28 last year, a meeting was held in Moscow between the heads of the defense ministries of Turkey, the Russian Federation and Syria. According to Akar, after it, a decision was made to join Iran in the dialogue and start preparations for negotiations in a quadripartite format.

Then the Russian Ministry of Defense noted the constructive nature of the meetings and announced the need to continue interaction in this format in the interests of further stabilizing the situation in Syria.

The press service of the Turkish Defense Ministry reported on its website that the meeting discussed “the Syrian crisis, the problem of refugees and joint efforts to combat all terrorist organizations in Syria.” Ankara considers the formation of the Syrian Kurds SDF / YPG to be a terrorist organization, which, in its opinion, are associated with the PKK, recognized as a terrorist organization in Turkey. Since mid-November, the Turkish Air Force has been conducting airstrikes on targets in territories controlled by the Syrian Kurds.
