Medvedev warned the EU that if gas prices are capped, there will be no gas supplies from Russia

Europe will face a lack of Russian gas in the event of the introduction of a price ceiling for it, declared Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev in his Telegram channel.

“It will be like oil. There will simply be no Russian gas in Europe,” he wrote.

So Medvedev commented on today’s statement the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, that “the time has come” to introduce a price limit on pipeline Russian gas.

A similar ban is now being discussed in the West with respect to Russian oil and oil products. How writes Financial Times, the G7 countries will agree at today’s meeting on the introduction of a price limit for the relevant supplies. According to the publication, the marginal oil prices should come into force on December 5, along with the EU embargo on marine supplies of oil from the Russian Federation, and on oil products – from February 5.

The main unresolved issue remains the size of the limit, wrote yesterday The Wall Street Journal. Western officials have repeatedly stressed that they want to use these restrictions to greatly reduce Russia’s oil revenues, but not to allow a cessation of supplies, which could lead to another jump in oil prices. Thus, Bloomberg in July claimed that Western countries are discussing a range from $40 to $60 per barrel, which will be higher than the cost of oil production, i.e. Russia will have an incentive to continue it. At the same time, the administration of US President Joe Biden considers the $40 limit too low.

Earlier today, the press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, said that with the establishment of a price limit for Russian gas, oil and oil products, these energy resources will be supplied in other directions – to countries that work on market conditions, transmitted “RIA News”. The day before, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak called the idea of ​​imposing a price cap “total absurdity” that could destabilize the entire industry, causing prices to rise, and EU and US consumers to suffer from this.
