Medvedev urged to create a reliable air defense system

Russia needs to work on the reliability of its air defense (AD) system. Such a statement did Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev at a meeting of the working group of the Military Industrial Commission of the Russian Federation at the Obukhov plant (part of the Almaz-Antey concern).

Medvedev drew attention to the fact that NATO countries are building up the combat potential of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, “supplying Kyiv with modern means of destruction with an increased range.” In addition, the West is supplying Ukraine with multiple launch rocket systems, various types of drones, and Western-made missiles are being installed on Ukrainian fighters, the politician added.

“The situation is very serious, and we really need to create a reliable air defense system, both in the special military operation zone and to protect facilities far from the line of contact,” he said.

According to Medvedev, “everyone is waiting for this” – both the army and the whole country. The deputy chairman of the Security Council also stated the need to “calculate all possible risks and threats” and determine in what volumes and what weapons will be additionally required “in the near future.” Such an analysis is already underway, he stressed.

After the drone attack on Moscow on May 30, Russian President Vladimir Putin notedthat the air defense system in Moscow “worked normally, satisfactorily, although there is something to work on.” The next day, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov explained that the head of state meant that the air defense worked effectively, but “there is room to improve this efficiency.” The Kremlin stressed that work to improve the air defense system will continue.
