Today, Russia is once again forced to confront the forces of neo-Nazism; they cannot be given a chance for revenge. This statement was made by Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev on the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Battle of Stalingrad.
“Our duty is to remember the lessons of the past. To preserve the memory of the feat of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War, their stamina and courage, selfless devotion to the Motherland. Support veterans, look up to them. And do not give the slightest chance for revenge to the forces of neo-Nazism, with which we are forced to fight again today, ” wrote he is on his page in VKontakte.
Medvedev also predicted defeat for the current enemy, just like 80 years ago, emphasizing that the enemy “will not pass.”
Earlier today on the anniversary of the victory in the Battle of Stalingrad Russians congratulated Speaker of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin. He noted that not everyone “learned the lesson of history”, and again recalled the words of the ex-Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel about the Minsk agreements. Volodin said that the Leopard 2 tanks promised to Ukraine “will be burned, repeating the fate of the fascist Tigers.”
The Battle of Stalingrad went from July 17, 1942 to February 2, 1943. During the counter-offensive, known as Operation Uranus, the Soviet army surrounded the army of Field Marshal Friedrich Paulus and liquidated the enemy troops. On February 2, the German group near Stalingrad (modern Volgograd) capitulated. It is believed that the victory in the Battle of Stalingrad marked a radical change in the course of the Great Patriotic War.
