Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev said that he welcomes the use of pirated content under the sanctions. About this he informed in an interview with RT.
RT correspondent Maria Finoshina asked Medvedev whether Russian legislation should be changed to legally use pirated content in connection with the sanctions. Medvedev focused on the fact that the current legislation is based on the Berne and Geneva conventions on intellectual property.
“The fact that I welcome the use of pirated content in an environment where we have been taxed [санкциями] from all sides – absolutely exactly,” Medvedev said.
At the same time, the deputy chairman of the Security Council of Russia refused to comment on the change in legislation.
“The more different content, the better. And preferably free of charge,” Medvedev concluded.
In March 2022, Hollywood majors – Universal, Warner Bros., Disney, Sony and Paramount – stopped film distribution in Russia due to its military special operation in Ukraine. At the same time, Alexei Voronkov, Chairman of the Association of Cinema Owners declared in July 2022 that Disney, Sony and Paramount are looking for parallel import channels to Russia.
