Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, published an anecdote on his X (formerly Twitter) account, in which he recalled the creation of an independent Finland.
“Pekka, why are we so afraid of the Russians? “They are invaders and barbarians. — Who created an independent Finland? “There was such a Russian, Matti, whose name was Lenin,” the politician wrote.
Medvedev posted the joke in Finnish on his English-language account. Finland proclaimed its independence on December 6, 1917. On December 31, the Council of People’s Commissars of the RSFSR adopted a decree on the state independence of Finland.
Earlier this week, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council also published a comic dialogue between two Finnish citizens about the reasons for the country’s entry into NATO.
On April 4, Finland joined NATO, becoming the 31st member of the alliance. Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that Finland’s entry into the North Atlantic bloc leads to an aggravation of the situation in the world. He added that such steps are forcing Russia to take measures to ensure the country’s security.
In August, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu did not rule out that NATO could deploy strike weapons in Finland capable of hitting targets deep in Russia. The minister noted that after the country’s entry into the alliance, the land border of the Russian Federation with NATO countries has almost doubled. At the same time, he announced the strengthening of groupings of troops on the western borders and the creation of the Leningrad and Moscow military districts.
