Medvedev proposed temporarily suspending diplomatic relations with the EU

Russia should temporarily suspend diplomatic relations with EU countries amid a ban on Russians importing personal belongings into the EU. About it stated Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev in his Telegram channel.

“It would be better to simply temporarily suspend diplomatic relations with the EU. And bring diplomatic personnel to our country,” he wrote. According to the politician, this will cause serious concern in Brussels, since “embassies are evacuated before certain events.”

At the same time, Medvedev ruled out introducing mirror measures in response to the EU ban, since “we are not racists”, unlike European leaders. The Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council said that by restricting the import of personal belongings, Brussels “directly and without any pretense” classified Russians as “second-class people.” He called the introduced ban “a concrete slap in the face of every citizen of Russia.”

Earlier today, the EU restriction was also commented on by the acting head of the Federal Customs Service Ruslan Davydov and Senator Andrei Klishas. Davydov named EU ban is “complete lawlessness.” He expressed confidence that Russia “will not create such chaos” because “we are civilized people, unlike them.”

At the same time Klishas statedthat only mirror measures will be able to influence the “enraged European bureaucrats” and the abolition of such restrictions. The introduced restriction, according to him, is “pure discrimination on the basis of a passport.”

8 September EC published clarification on the import of Russian vehicles into EU countries. According to the document, Russian transport, regardless of whether it is used for private or commercial purposes, can be arrested.

The EC refers to the regulation of the EU Council of July 31, 2014 “On restrictive measures in connection with the actions of Russia.” According to Art. 3i introduces a ban on the sale and import into the EU of a number of goods, including cars. September 10 in the EC clarifiedthat in addition to cars, Russians are also prohibited from bringing suitcases, laptops, smartphones, cosmetics, etc. into the EU. This will be regarded as a prohibited import.
