Medvedev pointed to the possibility of “driving a nail into the coffin” of neo-colonialism

Russia, together with other countries, can drive the “final nail in the coffin” of the neo-colonial aspirations of Western countries. About it declared Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia Dmitry Medvedev in an article published on the United Russia website.

“The time has come for international surgery to remove a malignant tumor of the colonial past. <...> And if the Soviet Union actively contributed to the death of the colonial system in the world, now we, together with other countries, can drive the final nail into the coffin of the neo-colonial aspirations of the Western world,” the statement said.

As an example, Medvedev cited Argentina’s withdrawal from the agreement with Britain on the conduct of administrative and economic activities in the Falkland Islands, which have always been considered a disputed territory, and the denunciation of the Military Assistance Treaty between Burkina Faso and France. According to Medvedev, this action underlines the readiness of countries to fight neo-colonialism.

“Truly sovereign states are no longer afraid of the dictates of the notorious “collective West”. Own national interests outweigh the risks of sanctions counteraction. Fear, which even Pliny the Younger called a bad mentor in matters of due, no longer works,” Medvedev stressed.

According to him, the new multipolar world should be much more complicated than “a two-dimensional bipolar or unipolar dictate” – and this suits Russia, Medvedev stressed.

The Russian side has repeatedly pointed to the desire of the world for multipolarity. In particular, in mid-February, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov emphasizedthat Russia proceeds from the fact that the modern world is multipolar. He recalled that the countries of the Asia-Pacific region, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America, which make up the world’s majority, do not want to live by the rules that Western countries have come up with for themselves.
