Medvedev: NATO does not need Ukraine

The statements of NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, who ruled out Ukraine’s entry into the alliance during the conflict, mean that NATO does not need Ukraine. This opinion was expressed by Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev.

“What does this mean in practical terms? We do not need Ukraine in NATO. In any case, as long as at least a remnant of this state remains in its current form, ”- wrote he is in the Telegram channel, commenting on the words of Stoltenberg.

Consequently, Medvedev concluded, for the current political regime in Ukraine, “the conflict will be permanent.” The new authorities in NATO “definitely will not be asked,” the politician expressed confidence.

Earlier today, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in an interview with France 5 declaredthat the entry of Ukraine in a state of conflict in NATO is impossible. According to him, both NATO countries and Kyiv understand this. At the same time, Stoltenberg added, “the doors of the alliance are open.” He noted that the countries of the bloc are planning to discuss security guarantees for Ukraine at the July NATO summit in Vilnius.

Against the backdrop of joining Russia in the fall of 2022, the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky declaredthat Ukraine will apply for NATO membership in an expedited manner. In November Stoltenberg notedthat Kyiv should focus on maintaining its independence and not on NATO membership.

In April 2023 he informed about reaching a consensus by NATO members that Ukraine should become a member of the alliance. In response, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell declaredthat the decision on Ukraine’s entry into NATO will be made by the member countries of the alliance, and not by Stoltenberg. In May, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz indicated on Ukraine’s inconsistency with “many conditions” for joining the alliance.

In the Kremlin declaredthat Stoltenberg’s words only confirm the correctness of the decision to conduct a special operation. Prior to this, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov noted that the exclusion of the possibility of Ukraine joining NATO is still one of the goals of the special operation of the Russian Federation.
